MICHEL MECTEAU

Birth : La Sarre, Abitibi, 1946.

Training : From an early age, Michel Mecteau dreams of becoming an artist. Promising beginnings enable him to receive many prizes for his drawings. In 1966, while enrolling in the architecture program at the Cégep de Trois-Rivières, he already has many techniques acquired such as watercolor, oil, acrylic and pastel. During that same period of time, he collaborated as a caricaturist and a comic artist for Le Nouvelliste, a newspaper from Trois-Rivières, and many other weekly papers in the Mauricie region and in Joliette. These jobs opened many doors for him where businesses invited him to display his works. In 1974, he moves to Montreal where he follows courses in the graphic arts. Michel Mecteau paints many areas of Quebec but he pays particular attention to the Saguenay where small quaint villages blend in with the tall and rough mountains and the majestic low valley snake-shaped rivers. His paintings leave an impression due to their vivid colours, magnificent and harmonious, with which he makes the light dance through.

Exhibitions : In 1997 he participated at the grand painting symposium held in the Saguenay. He also participated at the grand painting symposium in Pointe-aux-Trembles in 1999 and that of Sainte-Rose, Laval between 2000 - 2002.

Awards : 1st honour prize at the painting symposium in Sainte-Rose, Laval in 2002.
