Training : Born in Canada and the daughter of an artistic and theatrical family, Sarah Murphy was raised in a world intensely focused on colour and form and imagination. Her training includes a Diploma in conception and illustration at the Académie des Couturiers Canadiens in Ontario and a wide variety of international workshops with professional artists. Her unique style, “magical realism”, fuses the two in a spirited blend of realism and impressionism. Sarah Murphy creates her own language, which goes beyond stylistic constraints and captures her intense spirit and playfulness. It has often been said about her figurative work, that she has taken Matisse and gone much further. Her variety of paintings speaks to the versatility of an artist who moves from still life to figurative without compromising her identity. Murphy has developed a unique and highly recognisable vocabulary which is spoken through her vibrant colour palette. Her lively style also features a variety of mediums, including watercolour, oils, and acrylics which she employs with equal ease and confidence.
