JOSÉE FOREST

Birth : Montreal, 1967

Training : Self-taught painter. Spending my life along the major arteries of the city and weekends in the country created a whirlwind inside of me. From the shock of opposition sometimes harmony is born. I enjoy the urban style of big cities, industry, office towers, lofts and concrete. It’s a setting I am comfortable in. I also like the freshness of nature, its softness, its calm, its light and the purity it emanates. I have always carefully observed things around me in the minutest detail. I enjoy giving importance to the ordinary so that it can become extraordinary. Using clean lines, I try to bring out details by bathing them in light, vivid colours and rich shadows. My purpose is to gently disrupt expectations to renew standards. Using an ultra-realist urban style, I paint the curves and velour of flower petals and the gentle fragility of its stem. I offer a glimpse of the subtle movement of a raindrop or the morning dew that settles softly on the petals. My artistic approach involves discovering the complexity of these fragile beauties of nature.
